Things Sync Beta
Recently I was accepted into the CulturedCode Things Sync Beta, both on the Mac desktop application and the iOS applications. Hurrah I thought as I hurriedly reinstalled all 3 apps on my iMac, Macbook Air, iPhone and iPad. I forgot just how lovely the UI was, and working with the flexibility of tags was a breath of fresh air!
NDA
Whilst being held to the NDA regarding the sync beta I can reveal it works very very well, syncing is instantaneous and has worked without a hitch since I installed it.
Development hell
But….. Things now feels somewhat stuck in the past. I applaud the Things CulturedCode devs for it’s sync implementation, but it’s taken far too long. The main problem now is that productivity apps have moved on a lot since Things was released in 2009, it’s taken the developers so long to get to this sync beta stage the main desktop app has not kept pace with the competition, as other apps have continuously developed to include Location aware contexts, Team integration, Siri Integration, nested Contexts/Projects and a whole host of other features Things has just stood still….
The King is dead, long live the King.
I fear that the once wonderful Things will be consigned to a footnote of Mac app history, ‘That great little GTD Mac app with a lovely UI’ will be all that remains. Which will be sad as it deserves so much more. I hope the dev’s get the Sync released really soon to everyone then announce some new features (with a timescale!) for Things in the future.
Am I being harsh or is Things a thing of the past?
